Away at Swansea

The new season is looming and the first friendly against Swansea was over the weekend and we beat the Welsh 4-0. Putting 4 past a Championship club is one thing, but a club like Swansea is another. Our starters were Chica, Victor Ruiz, Didac, De La Pena, Luis Garcia, Callejon, Coro, Jarque, Moises, Tamudo and Cristian Alvarez. Playing well, it was close to half-time though before a Luis Garcia free-kick found the head of Tamudo and opened the scoring. The second came in the 65th minute after Jonathan picked up a garbage goal after Rufete’s strike. Riera then ended the goal fest with two great goals setting his claim for that promised link to Liver…pool…crickets? Yeah, seems the market is pretty dead for all those over-hyped, I hate to use the term quitters for players that I was so high on but I will because that’s exactly what they were at the end of the season.

Some quick hits today, we signed Roman Martinez a powerful Argentinian midfielder from Arsenal de Sarandi. Look for us to face Manchester United at Old Trafford for the the Ole Gunnar testimonial on August 2. More next time.

What do you mean “a club like swansea”?

No disrespect, actually quite the contrary, I meant that this was no mere Championship club and that it was an accomplishment for Espanyol to put up 4, especially how poorly we played at the end of last year.

The goalkeeper who started against Swansea.
Chica? Is he normally a defender??? Did he play the secon half too?
Thought we played well in the first half and were unlucky to be one down. The substitutions at half time killed us and the game as a spectacle- it was extremely one sided and Espanyol looked far, far more impressive.
    Good luck next season.

Francisco Javier (Chica) Torres is a defender, he played off-and-on again at the start of last season but ended strong by starting in the last 6 or so games last year. He’s 23. Sorry if I made it look like he started in goal, actually Carlos Kameni, the guy Spurs were looking at to step in for Paul Robinson was out with a mild case of malaria (whatever that means), so Cristian Alvarez the Argentinian keeper we got from Rosario Central over the summer started. He may yet be our number one if any last minute deals come through for want-away Carlos. Cheers and good luck in the Coca-Cola (hope they’re still the sponsor). :)
