Real Madrid v Espanyol
By: Armando | October 10th, 2008
Sorry this was late, but I’ve been on vacation and struggled with internet action all week. The Bernabeu crowd was up for the match as usual, and while this was no Catalan v Castilian derby per se, there are more than there share of interesting moments between supporters and between players in this match. Espanyol have played well in the recent past against Madrid. The final score came up a draw, Lil Buddha Ivan De La Pena played extremely well and linked up beautifully with Tamudo and Garcia up front. A penalty by Raul and a nice goal by Luis set us up well for the win away, but Real Madrid’s talismanic Raul stepped up. He may not be the silent assassin of his youth, preying on an opponents goal from a position of safety hiding on an opponents’ shoulder, but he is still an active and disruptive force despite his lack of pace. His will is impressive and it just shows that we (Espanyol) have a lot yet to prove on the defensive side if we want to challenge for Europe again. All in all a good game for us.
Quick Hits: The club was fined a little over 4,000 U.S. dollars for the crowd trouble incurred during the Catalan derby match against FC Barcelona. I realize it’s a pittance and more than a bit ceremonial, but is there a reason why Barca weren’t charged in this mess? I know, the Montjuic is our stadium (for now) but it was no secret that the Boixos Nois were planning trouble and they should have done more to patrol their own.

A good point well earned even though both coaches thought they deserved the victory !!
Look at it this way: Real Madrid, Bernabeu Stadium, 1st point in 3 matches. We can build on this!!Posted from

I have nothing but praise for your club because holding back Real Madrid from another annoying victory makes me very happy.

Ivan De La Pena? The difference between another disappointing loss to a “big club” in Spain.
