The Return of RCD Espanyol
By: Armando | January 21st, 2009
Well, as you’ve pretty much noticed it’s been pretty barren here at the RCD Espanyol Blog and I really want to apologize to my one lone reader. As many of you know, Espanyol have been plummeting down the table, a table filled with teams far less talented or even historic than ours. We have seen 3 coaches in the span of half a season, the loss of many of most talented players, and for a few moments on Sunday I wished I had not begun to follow such a sorry bunch as those that put on the red and white away kit that we wore as we faced Malaga, a side that looked so much like the exciting side we were last year: blue and white striped kit, pure passing football, it was a sobering reminder of what could have been this year.
Well, basta I say. Enough wallowing in the depths. So what if we have been let down, by certain players: the on-field leadership who have scored no more than 3 goals individually between any one of the strikers. So what if club management allowed mistakes like the selling of Albert Riera or Pablo Zabaleta this past Summer without readying their replacements. How about the continuing the farce that is Ivan de la Pena? Can we just say he’ll never be the same Lil Buddha again and move on? Yet, out our fortunes are so tied to how healthy the little genius is. So what then that I’ve been on a downward funk, mirroring the nose-tailed dive that the club I support have been on from first early on in the season, spiraling into the mediocrity of 10th by early November and crashing into a basement slot at 18th, a place they have comfortably settled at since Christmas? Well, my situation isn’t nearly as dire, but my club’s is. There is a league-wide financial meltdown occurring. Smaller, regional clubs like Espanyol have been forced to make due with what they have rather than spend and the market is even more inflated for talented than before. Help isn’t coming; whether that’s a new striker, a new creative midfielder, or even a stable and talented goalkeeper to replace the distracted shell that we cling to. There are no miracles to wait for.
There is only the slow, measured, painful climb back, and not even to respectability, that’s not even an issue right now. The issue is survival. 5 points to safety. Right now. I’m back. My club will be back too.

Good match today, hopefully you can do the business down the road at the Camp Nou, much rather see you guys in the latter stages than your neighbours. It may also spark the re-vitalization of Espanyol, surely things can’t get much worse anyway.

Good to read the Espanyol/Offside news again!!
It’s not easy to remain upbeat when our team is languishing in the basement. I am very pleased with Pochettino’s appointment, much better than the last one (no disrespect to Mané).
My main concern is the league, but if the Copa helps give the team wings, then I’m all for that too!!!Posted from

Thanks, more news to come. Check out my other site at forzafutbol.com for more La Liga news. That’s what had taken up most of my time for the last 2 months. I promise more Espanyol news and features soon both here, on the Forza Futbol website and weekly podcast.
